Nomination Process

Who Can Nominate:
Anyone may submit a nomination for consideration. The AKOGHS Hall of Fame Committee may also nominate candidates.

How to Submit:
Nominations must be submitted using the official nomination form on the AKOGHS website.

Where It Goes:
Completed nomination forms are directed to the AKOGHS Hall of Fame Committee.

Requirements:

A clear description of how the nominee meets the Hall of Fame criteria
Verification of nominee qualifications by multiple sources

Committee Review:

The HOF Committee verifies all information
If qualifications are met, the nominee moves forward for voting
A nominee must receive unanimous approval by secret ballot from committee members to be recommended

Final Approval:
The HOF Committee Chair submits the recommended candidates to the AKOGHS Board for final action.

Recommendation for Nominators:
Review past inductees on the AKOGHS website to understand the level of contribution expected.

Nomination Criteria

An AKOGHS Hall of Fame nominee must have made significant and extraordinary contributions—through a single act or an entire career—to Alaska’s oil and gas industry.

This means:

Demonstrated impact that stands out among peers
Clear contributions that advanced the industry
Noteworthy leadership, innovation, or service

Additional Criteria:

Nominee may be living or deceased
Wealth, money, or social status are not factors
Employment in an oil or gas company is not required
Nominees should match the stature of past inductees
Nominee must be of good character and reflect positively on the industry

Areas of Contribution

Nominees may come from any sector connected to Alaska’s oil and gas industry, including but not limited to:

Industry Sectors

Exploration, drilling, extraction, production
Transportation, refining, gas processing, sales
Service industries (seismic, drilling, surveying, construction, logistics, maintenance, etc.)

Major Alaska Projects

Concept, engineering, construction, or operations associated with TAPS
Cook Inlet development, planning, design, or operational excellence

Innovation & Leadership

Engineering advancements
Technical breakthroughs
Arctic pioneering efforts
Project management and construction innovation

Policy, Safety, and Workforce

Government officials or regulators with pivotal impact
Contributions to safety improvements, environmental practices, training, and education
Workforce development and community benefits
Political or investment leadership that advanced the industry

Each nomination letter we receive will be kept on file and considered for induction by a committee. We host a Hall of Fame induction on an annual basis.

BRIEF HISTORY

Alaska Oil and Gas Historical Society and the Alaska Oil and Gas Hall of Fame

The vision of an Alaska Oil and Gas Historical Society (AKOGHS) Hall of Fame came into focus in 2024 with the initial selection of inductees who played invaluable roles in shaping the oil and gas industry in the State of Alaska. These pioneers were given the recognition they had long deserved, but something was missing. Thus, a group of oil and gas industry professionals serving on the Board of Directors of AKOGHS began to discuss the hall of fame as well as a museum focusing on the achievements of the oil & gas industry in Alaska. With that, the Alaska Oil and Gas Hall of Fame was born.

AKOGHS incorporated as a non-profit in 2023, and began the work of collecting, preserving, and sharing the rich history of Alaska’s Oil and Gas Industry. A museum planning committee was formed and has begun studying the feasibility of an oil and gas museum in Alaska.

There are two uppermost goals that remain primary to the managing board members of AKOGHS.

The first is to provide an avenue for education regarding the oil and gas industry as a major contributor to the development and prosperity of the State of Alaska.

Second, AKOGHS plans to remain vigilant in the preservation of the oil & gas industry’s rich and colorful history. These goals are realized every day as a continuous effort through the hard work of the Society’s board members and other supporters.

The response to AKOGHS in its early days has been remarkable.
